Marshfield 2 v Bradford on Avon Cricket Club First Eleven on Sat 24 Aug 2019 at 13:00
Bradford on Avon Cricket Club Won by 10 runs

Match report What a close game! Having lost the toss, BoA were asked to bat on a very warm day with a refreshed Marshfield side who had become adept at chasing down totals, having won the last 3 on the bounce at home.

Having lost Matt Harrington early, Chris Thompson batted for over 2 hours in the heat for his 75 putting on 105 for the second wicket with Tony Burrows (41). Worth mentioning Tony's massive 6 over the pavilion as it'll be much discussed throughout the rest of the year in the Burrows household! Lewis Green played a patient innings for his 12. At 136 for 4 off 36 overs there was much to do if BoA were to set a competitive total. James Pike sadly tore a quad muscle forcing him to retire hurt bringing Tom Wade (26) to the crease with Paul Vooght (32*). Tom's brief cameo saw four 4s and one 6 and gain back the momentum for BoA. Rufus (8*) came to the crease for a final flurry but as the Marshfield seamers returned we soon realised that deliveries on a back of a length were hard to get away (something for later!). Overall, we posted 211-5 off the 45 overs which we knew were setting Marshfield a score higher than they had previously chased plus they'd also been baked by the sun for the last 3 hours.

In reply, Marshfield played the BoA seamers easily and it was the introduction of Dean Bird (2-31) that finally made in roads into the order with good catches from Vooght at deepish mid on and Jon Moss with a low catch at mid wicket. BoA were fielding very well keeping pressure on Marshfield but at 159-3 off 35 overs with 53 required off 10 overs and 7 wickets in hand things didn't look good. The reintroduction of seamers, Kit Chapman (2-35), Tom Wade (3-30) and Vooght (2-36) began to peg back Marshfield with the last 6 wickets falling for just 33 runs. The momentum had shifted and BoA had fought back to grab victory.

This was a really tough game with Marshfield playing a patient run chase and almost getting across the line. But the BoA ground fielding and catching (almost nearly all) was exceptional especially Tom Wade who's fielding at Cover Point was nothing short of brilliant.

Final game at home to Keevil CC next Saturday as we look to secure second place in the league and a chance of promotion #GoGudgeons!! #Bradslam
